Welcome to the ICT and Business Department – on this page you will find all the information relevant to the different courses that we run from Year 7 to Year 13. We currently study ICT and Computer Science at KS3 and KS4. In KS5 we offer BTEC L3 ICT and BTEC L3 Business.

Information Technology

Information and communications technology (ICT) refers to all the technology used to handle telecommunications,  broadcast media, intelligent building management systems, audiovisual processing and transmission systems, and network-based control and monitoring functions.

ICT is important to information and communication because we are living in a constantly evolving digital world. ICT has an impact on nearly every aspect of our lives - from working to socialising, learning to playing. The digital age has transformed the way young people communicate, network, seek help, access information and learn. We must recognise that young people are now an online population and access is through a variety of means such as computers, TV and mobile phones

An ICT system is a set-up consisting of hardware, software, data and the people who use them. It commonly includes communications technology, such as the Internet.

Computer Science

Computer science is a very large subject with lots of applications. Computer scientists design new software, solve computing problems and develop different ways to use technology.

Computational thinking involves looking at a problem and working out a way a computer might be able to help you solve it. To do this, you need to understand how a computer processes information.
