Mathematics

Mathematics is a rich, stimulating and engaging subject. By developing logical reasoning and problem-solving skills students will be better equipped to understand, challenge and change the world around them.

At Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, through the study of number, algebra, ratio, proportion and rates of change, geometry and measure, probability and statistics, students will:

  • Develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
  • Acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
  • Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
  • Comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context

As well as GCSE Maths we also offer GCSE Further Maths as an enrichment for those students wishing to broaden and deepen their Mathematical knowledge by studying areas of Pure Mathematics that overlap with A-level Maths.

At Key Stage 5 students study algebraically challenging areas of Pure Mathematics such as calculus, geometry, trigonometry and quadratics whilst also developing their knowledge of Applied Mathematics through the study of Mechanics and Statistics.

Also at Key Stage 5 we offer students the opportunity to study Core Maths. This is an AS qualification taught over two years and uses Mathematics to solve real-life problems.
