Sociology is the study of the society in which we live and it examines how we are influenced and shaped through being members of groups and organizations.

It concentrates on the way we make society what it is and the way society makes us what we are. In GCSE Sociology, we are dealing with sociological concepts, studies, theories and methods. During the course, we are covering the following topics: Families, Education, Crime and Deviance and Social Stratification.

Sociology develops a range of transferable skills for progression and all the topics listed above link perfectly with the wider curriculum.

Students will develop analytical and critical thinking skills to enable them to present a wide range of well-informed and reasoned arguments, useful in other subjects as well as life beyond the classroom. It prepares people particularly well in other Humanities and Social Sciences.
