Your Application Journey

There are many opportunities to find out more about studying with us and to decide if Samuel Ward Sixth Form is right for you.

Before you apply

1. Open Events – June and July (of Year 10)

Our taster days are the best way to start your research. These are targeted at Year 10 students and focus on exploring the subjects you are interested in. You would attend subject specific taster lessons and gain a better understanding of what it is like to be a student at Samuel Ward Sixth Form.

2. Open Evening – July (of Year 10)

Our Open Evening will enable students, parents and carers to tour our site, see our facilities and attend introductory talks. You will be able to speak to our current students and staff to find out more.

3. Post-16 evenings – September to October (of Year 11)

We will attend a number of Post-16 events and information evenings hosted by partner schools. These events allow students and their parents or carers to find out about the sixth form centres in the area.

4. Making an application – January (of Year 11)

You will need to apply by the 14th January.

After you apply

5. Guidance meetings – February (of Year 11)

These 1:1 meetings (a parents or carers are welcome to join you) aim to discuss your application, subject choices and how these decisions support your wider future plans. No verbal offers are made at this stage.

6. Confirming subjects – March (of Year 11)

We may contact you to confirm your subject choices, particularly if you were not quite sure of your choices during your guidance meeting. If you want to make changes to your subjects at this point, don’t worry, you can.

7. Offers – March (of Year 11)

Offers are emailed individually to confirm your subject choices and the specific entry requirements.

8. Welcome Day – July (of Year 11)

Join us for this important transitional step. You will find out more about studying at Samual Ward Sixth Form and meet key staff and your fellow students.

9. GCSE results day – August

We hope you gain the grades needed for your programme of study and offer, but if this isn’t the case, you will be invited to a guidance

10. Getting started – September (Year 12)

Your first day as a student in our Sixth Form! You will meet your tutor, find out more about the year ahead, enrichment options and expectations before your timetabled lessons begin.
