Dear Parents and carers,

Welcome to the penultimate bulletin of this academic year. Where has the time gone? I’ve been thinking about this bulletin and how I write it. I’m sure that lots of you read it on your phone, where it might seem very long. I’m going to try to keep it short and to the point this week. In future weeks, I’m going to see how hard it would be to offer the bulletin as a podcast as well, so make it even easier to access.

WPA

There are loads of exciting things going on at the minute. Year 6 have been at Duxford today – their final trip as primary school children!

We recently welcomed parents to join us in assembly for years 3, 4 and 5. Thank you to all that came – I hope you enjoyed them.

Thank you as well to everyone who attended the SEN coffee morning recently. Ms Moody tells me it was a really good turnout and a very valuable discussion.

Tonight, there is the school disco. I know staff are looking forward to it, and I hope pupils are too. Get those dancing shoes out.

Next week we have the EYFS and KS1 Sports Day on Wednesday and the KS2 Sports day on Friday.

Next Friday we will be sending out the end of year reports for all children.

The week after, Year 6 will be on transition days from Wednesday to Friday. Our new staff will be visiting on Wednesday. The final day of term for WPA students is Thursday 20th July.

SWA

The big event this week was the prom. Students looked fantastic and as always were exceptionally supportive and appreciative of each other as they took it in turns to arrive in splendour. It was a pleasure for those of us who attended to enjoy an evening in those young people’s company.

Upcoming events start with Year 10 visiting Hunstanton for their geography trip next Monday. The weather looks good for that.

On Tuesday, assuming the weather holds, we will be holding sports day. The question is, can anyone defeat Darwin?

On Wednesday we are welcoming students from across the county to join us for a business challenge. The Business Studies team are taking over C block for the day with a challenge event for well over a hundred of tomorrow’s business leaders.

On Friday, we are delighted to celebrate the return of the Year 7 and 8 Summer Fete. Parents of students in those year groups are invited to bring a picnic and join us for the afternoon from 1.50pm. There are more details in a letter directly to those parents.

HC6

Uniformed Services students have been on camp this week in Bures St Mary. The students were totally self-sufficient, working in teams to light fires, cook, maintain the camp and so on. Thanks to the staff who have supported them and well done to the students on a great trip.

On Thursday we will be holding out Y12 induction event during the day and our Sixth Form Open Evening later on. That is a chance to come and meet the new leadership team for the sixth form and to talk about the various subject options, including the football academy we are offering in partnership with the New Croft. That event runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Students in Year 10 are warmly encouraged to attend.

Term ends for Samuel Ward students on Friday 21st July.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Andy Hunter
