Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are all doing well.  With only a few months left in school for our year 11 students, I wanted to write and confirm some dates and upcoming events.

Exams:

GCSE exams start after Easter with photography and art exams and MFL speaking exams the following week.  The main bulk of exams then start week commencing 6th May, with the last GCSE exam being sat on Wednesday 19th June.  You will receive your child’s individual exam timetable from our exams officer Ms Gouveia, along with a comprehensive guide to exam rules and regulations.  Please ensure that both you and your child are familiar with the content of both documents.

Leavers’ memorabilia:

Year 11 leavers hoodies are now available to order online.  All students are able to choose their own colour and add names or initials if they choose.  The hoodies cost £25 each (plus £4 if you opt for an additional name or initial, or £4 if they would like a style other than the normal college style).  Please follow this link to place an order:

Orders need to be placed by 17th April.  The hoodies will then be available for collection at the leavers’ assembly.

We are also in the process of compiling a ‘Leavers’ Yearbook’.  This will also be available for the Leavers Assembly so that students can get them signed, there will be pages for students and teachers to sign, it will be a Glossy 48-page book. I will be contacting all students for them to let us know if they would like us to use their school photo or an alternative they would like to add, as well as a quote and some other sections we are compiling for them. The books will cost £12.66 each. These are the details if you would like to order one:

Closing date - 15th May 2024

Prom 2024:

The Year 11 Prom is being held at the Haverhill Arts Centre on Thursday 4th July from 19.00-22.30.  This is always an exciting and impressive event for the whole town, as many people will line the High Street to watch all the students arrive and walk up the red carpet.  We are also planning on having a Prom Committee to start to help us plan an event that the students will truly enjoy. More details will follow closer to the time.

In order to have the privilege of attending the prom, students do need to ensure that they are maintaining the standards of behaviour we expect for the remaining time they have in school.  Any students who do not meet the following expectations between now and leavers’ day can expect to have this privilege removed:

  • No Serious Incident 3’s or suspensions
  • No more than 2 days in the Inclusion Room
  • No more than 4 incidents of lateness detentions on Friday.
  • Good behaviour for learning in lessons which does not disrupt their own learning or that of others.

Exam Results:

Students will be able to collect their exam results from school on Thursday 22nd of August at 9.00am.

Revision and support:

Our afterschool subject revision sessions will continue to run until the exams in those subjects are finished, so please do encourage your children to attend where they can.  Mr Butterworth has previously written with lots of useful information and websites that can support your child in preparing and revising for exams. Mr Butterworth will also be in contact shortly to let you know about our Easter Revision Offer.

There are also many other avenues of support within the school to support your children through the exam period.  The school nursing team run a drop-in session every Thursday lunchtime in the wellbeing centre and can help with exam stress, sleep and other wellbeing strategies.  The year 11 team are also available to support with any pastoral issues.  You can contact your child’s form tutor in the first instance, as well as Miss Brown, Year 11 Inclusion Officer and Mrs Smithson, Assistant Head of Year 11 and Miss Bennett Head of Year 11.

Although the next few months will be hard work and potentially a little stressful, we hope to work with you and your children to make this period as productive and calm as possible, to enable them to fulfil their potential and be the very best versions of themselves.  If you have any queries, questions or need further support then please do get in touch. I hope to be in touch closer to the exams.

Kind regards

Tarah Bennett
